This week the government website TAP reported that Mr. Jalloul Ayed, Minister of Finance presented a plan reffered to as “jasmin plan”. The progam itself is projected to span five years with the aim of creating a million jobs.

The objective of the plan is to stimulate private investment in new technologies in which many young people could be employed.
Mr Ayed has been a very busy man these last few months with media interviews around the world including a session in the BBC Hard-talk interview series.
He has had the difficult job of keeping the public of Tunisia happy and chasing the funds of the last administration whilst also keeping the faith of foreign investors and creditors.
However as noble as this project sounds one must remember that there is an election incoming and the new administration may not want to proceed with this project as logically they may have their own plans and might need the budgets allocated to this plan so it will be interesting to see if it survives in its current state over the next six months or so.
