Traveling in Tunisia

In Tunisia there are many types of transport, which facilitate transport between the various cities, corners, places?.
To move between the various corners of the city, the best means is the taxi driver, available 24h/24h the tariff is starting from 300millimes, 5places including the driver (the luggage are free).

Here some words used in the taxi:

Asslama, brabbi wassalni lel matar (hello, please take me along to the airport)

Houni undermined (undermined, I can go down here)

Kadesh naatik? (How much I do pay you?)

Tram

To move in the town of Tunis, I advise you the tram, there are stations in all the corners of large Tunis, it is available 5am morning until 23pm the night, it is comfortable and fast (the subway is only in Tunis, not in the other areas).

Buses

There is also the bus, but I disadvise to you taking it is always full, and it is not always reliable which can be stressful for tourists.

Trains

To move between the areas, trains are available 5h morning until 0h30 the night, they are usualy quite clean and comfortable, but it is a little slow and crowded during peak periods.

Inter City Buses

The bus is advised in cases where travel over larger distances is required, it is comfortable, and not expensive (approximately, 3dinars Tunis-bizerte), and it is available 5h morning until 23h.

Louages

Then there are Louages, they are like the taxi, but between the larger areas, a louage is a large car of 8 seats including the driver, available all the times, they are not expensive (3dinars and half between Tunis and Bizerte for example).

When it comes to taking your first louage you may feel a little intimidated as your taxi drops you off at the station as they can be like chaos like a big hanger filled with MPVs. You can spot a louage as they have a red line over white. When you approach you seldom get to the office as someone will ask you where you are going and then will shepherd you in the direction of the queue of vehicles going in that direction. They work in a queue system where the first car gets filled, and then the second departs. Now two words of advice they do drive fast and if you feel that a louage looks to unsafe and dirty remember you will be zooming around in it with lots of people possibly in hot weather do not be afraid to say no. Also make sure you have change or small notes as the drivers being street smart get the money from the passengers 5 miles before they stop at the station and you may have to pass change to the front. Overall though louages are sociable, something different and practically speaking make a lot of sense to use.
