In all the doom and gloom about real estate in Tunisia (myself being a merchant) it was great to pass the Bizerte Marina building site and see some heavy working going on especially the boom-boom of the machines hammering the piles which is a obvious sign of progression.

You could be forgiven in these times that everything is on hold or cancelled however out of all the projects in Tunisia Bizerte Marina was always a) The most needed b) not reliant on one investor c) is not just real estate.

This weekend I was invited to see the team in Berges Du Lac office (Cote Materna next to Saudi Airways) and discuss the progress of the project so far.

Clearer rating system for Tunisian Hotels.

Great to see that with new management a raft of new legislation and clarity has arrived. A constant issue with the Tunisian tourism market has been the quality of hotels and the simple fact that some hotels have clearly not been up to the star rating that they have held previously. Even between Tunisian hotels you have had 5 star and "actual" 5 star the latter probably suffering a little since the other 5 star may drive down the cost. Another issue underlying is what facilities can someone expect in a Tunisian hotel of a certain rating?

Eating the childrens lunch!

There is somthing that I find both annoying and illogical at the same time in Tunisia the large number empty property and offices. I have spoken to many businessmen and especially the younger ones agree that something must be done ASAP.

My rant begins :-(

I a functioning market you have the law of supply and demand ie your in competition with other small business for a location if there are many of you the price can go up if less interest then the price goes down. What I have found in Tunisia (especially the good locations) there is simply a dysfunctional market that is harming commerce, town centres and the young/new business and those wishing to expand.

Great to see we are now on the "Alexa list of most popular websites: Tunisia"

And its also great to see that this moths stats come with some comment about Alexa being a valid statistical tool of analysis.

As I previously discussed Alexa has been long discredited as an accurate measurement tool and gave the evidence of are own stats where we where shown that the majourity of our traffic comes from Pakistan but alas we do not have one single forum member from there and out stats show that as you would expect the mjourity of our visitors are form the UK.

Right lets have some fun and see if we can improve this rank in time for the next ranking at the end of November!

The 15,000,000 dollar website for advertising Tunisia!!

Yes thats right apparently the new website for Tunisia (long overdue) which is a mixture of public and private investment Tunizie.com?? is apparently going to cost 15,000,000 dollars to build over 5 years. I now understand why nobody was interested in helping me (for free lol).

I was doing my usual look of the Tunisian media the other week when I found a story on the popular website www.Businessnews.com.tn. I like this site since it usually give it straight and if something in the business are looks out of kilter it usually has a good story about it.

Getting Ready for Ramadan

Being lazy is both the thing I love most about living in Tunisia (this is me talking about myself!) . As I type this I have just been disturbed by the wife who Dracula like has risen at 1pm and has started firing her orders at me whilst she stays firmly attached to the sofa. Its like a competition to see who can do the least with my wife and she is the grand master of Lazy Kung Fu her weapon of choice the mobile phone.
