Bizerte is a city located at the northern shores of Tunisia. Given the excellent geographic position of the city the area has been of strategic importance since roman times.
The city is also the centre of administration and gives its name to the governorate which is also called Bizerte and includes the The offshore Galite Islands. In total the administrative area covers circa of 3,685 km²
Bizerte is also commonly considered the nearest point to Europe geographically and culturally.
