Installation of two wind power-stations in Bizerte, Tunisia .

Bizerte is located on the north coast of Tunisia, it’s the northernmost point in Africa so it’s a favorable region which could  generate renewable energies development and fight against greenhouse effects.

In this regard, Two wind power-stations, one in Metline and the second in Kchabta, both in the governorate of Bizerte, a region that has an annual average of 300 windy days, are in process.

120 megawatts (MW) are expected from the two stations with a 30 month-achievement date limit, at a cost of 200 million euros, about 380 million dinars, financed as part of a full project by a credit from the Spanish Fund of Assistance to Development (FAD).

To this end, 91 air-generators will be set up, 46 of which on the Metline site and the other 45 on Kchabta’s. Besides, two high-voltage (HV) points, of a 90-Kilovolt (KV) capacity each, will be set on both sites, in addition to the extension of Menzel Jémil HV point, the setting up of a 90-KV HV line between Metline and Menzel Jémil and the creation of a way-in and way-out of the 90-KV HV line liking Menzel Bourguiba and Menzel Jémil, through Kchabta.

All the Installations and equipments would serve to convert the quantity of produced energy, estimated at 120 MW, into electricity and to integrate it to be marketed to the network of the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG).

The current plan will help STEG save annually over 120,000 Tons Oil Equivalent (TOE) of fuel and 43,000 cubic meters of water; Actually this project  is part of the national strategy of sustained development, of renewable energies development and fight against greenhouse effects. As it will also help bring down emission of 300,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere.
