Private independent radio stations in Tunisia are a relatively new idea.
The first-ever private radio station "Radio Mosaique FM," began in November 2003 and a second FM radio station "Radio Jawhara" began in February 2005.
Since then "Ezzeitouna" was launched in 2007 mainly to promote Tunisian values of moderation, tolerance and mutual aid. T
hese and future radio stations came about after the announcement by President Ben Ali announced the opening of audiovisual media communications to the private sector.
There is national public radio, Radio Tunis and five regional radio stations which cover various parts of the country. “Youth Radio” specifically caters to younger audiences.
