Tunis port expansion
Plans have been announced which will see Tunisia’s La Goulette port expanded.
The port, in the capital city Tunis, is already extremely busy, with cruise liners from across the world passing through, but officials want to extend it.
The move will allow more ships to dock in Tunis and will benefit tourism in the region.
President of Goulette Shipping, Sakhr El Matri, revealed the plans on November 6th, detailing that a new 640-metre dock and tourist village will be built.
The project is likely to cost in the region of ?‚¬19 million and should be ready by the end of 2010.
Once complete, the port will be able to cope with 70 per cent more ships than at present, representing two million cruise passengers per year, compared to the current 500,000.
La Goulette is said to be seeking collaboration on the project with an Italian and an American company.© Adfero | More Tunisia News
