Tunisia tourism increases
Global tourism is on the increase and Tunisia is among the countries enjoying a period of growth.
The latest figures from the United Nations agency, the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), show that more people are taking holidays in Tunisia than last year.
The results for the first four months of 2006 show that there were 236 million international tourist arrivals across the globe.
This increase in travellers is reflected in tourism numbers in Tunisia, which demonstrated an impressive three per cent growth on the same period last year.
Many holidaymakers are attracted to Tunisia for its fantastic clean beaches as well as the fact that it has some of the world’s most beautiful and interesting archaeological sites.
Tourists travel from all over the world to observe such attractions as the El Jem Roman Amphitheatre, the ruins of Utica and the troglodyte settlements of Matmata.
The latest statistics from the UNWTO show that the global tourism industry is beginning to level out after suffering a slightly rocky period.
“International tourism has now entered a more stable phase of sustained demand without big peaks and troughs,” said UNWTO secretary general Francesco Frangialli.![]()
