Cruise passenger numbers up
Cruise ship tourism is beginning to make big waves in Tunisia, with the latest statistics revealing 97,489 tourists arrived in Tunis in August alone.
Figures released by the Tunisian National Office of Tourism suggest that arriving in the country by cruise ship is becoming more popular.
Another clear sign of the developing trend, aside from the rising passenger numbers, was the arrival this year of the Costa Concordia, the largest cruise ship in the Italian company Costa's fleet.
Officials predict that by the end of 2006, the country will have seen a massive 700,000 cruise line passengers pass through Tunis.
Statistics show that the number of people visiting the country as part of a cruise has doubled in the past five years.
Traditionally Tunisia has benefited from tourists visiting from countries such as France, Italy, Germany and Spain, but recent data shows more people are coming from the likes of Scandinavia, Jamaica and the USA.
The country's coastline is currently undergoing some changes to help cope with the increased passenger numbers, with the La Goulette harbour being extended by 600 metres.© Adfero | More Tunisia News/>/>/>/>/>/>/>/>/>/>/>/>
