Growth in Tunisian tourism revenue
Tunisia has seen a marked rise in revenue created by tourism.
Statistics released by the Tunisian Central Bank show an increase of 4.5 per cent at the start of this year compared to 2005.
As of July 20th this year, the tourism industry in Tunisia generated a massive $930 million in revenue.
The government has predicted that 2006 will be a bumper one as far as tourism is concerned in the country and it seems to be heading that way, with August yet to be considered.
Estimates for tourist numbers have been put at around 6.5 million for the year and it is hoped an unprecedented $2 billion in revenue can be generated by the end of the year.
In the last month alone the tourism industry has seen a growth of $180 million.
Tunisia's popularity as a holiday destination is not a new thing, but recent events have increased its appeal.
More flights to the country and major investment in many areas, particularly marine sites, have helped to increase visitor numbers.
Tunisia's tourism future looks bright as well, with Emirates Airline soon to link Dubai with Tunis and the first Radisson SAS Hotel in North Africa opening in the country.
