Monastir visitor numbers up
The Tunisian city of Monastir is benefiting from increased visitor numbers, according to the latest figures.
The coastal region, which is one of the countries most popular tourist destinations, has seen large increases in the number of visitors since 2005.
The number of yachts docking in the region increased from 170 in 2005 to an impressive 219 in 2006, while the number of golf tournaments taking place in and around the city also rose.
Increases can also be seen in the number of people travelling through Monastir's Habib Bourguiba Airport, with 2.4 per cent more passengers passing through this year compared to last.
The figures are great news for the city and signal a general rise in Tunisia's popularity as a holiday destination.
Monastir is a city heaped in history and has played a part in many famous historical events.
It was the place chosen by Julius Caesar to seek refuge before defeating Pompeii in 46BC, although it was then known as Ruspina.© Adfero | More Tunisia News/>/>/>/>/>/>/>/>/>/>/>/>
