Tunisia sets up new airline with Mauritania

The Tunisian government has announced that a new joint-nation airline has been established with Mauritania.

Mauritania Airways will be launched in March of next year and offer both regional and international flights, according to reports.

It aims to become one of the leading carriers in the growing market of north Africa.

The agreement was signed on Monday December 18th by the minister for Mauritanian transport, Ibrahima Demba, and his Tunisian opposite number, Abderrahim Zoueri.

Tunisia's national airline, Tunisair, will hold a 51 per cent majority share in the company, with 39 per cent owned by a number of Mauritanian investors known as the Bouamatou Group.

The remaining ten per cent will be under the control of the Mauritanian government.

Tunisair was established in 1948 and operates scheduled services to almost 50 international destinations.
