Tunisian tennis starlets taste success
Tunisia is currently gripped by the sixth Carthage youth tennis tournament.
Olfa Dhaoui, who was born and grew up in the country, has progressed to the quarter.
Olfa overcame stiff opposition in the form of Algerian Ghizlane Douballah to make her way into the final eight of the competition.
She put in an impressive display, defeating her opponent in straight sets.
Olfa is now alone in representing Tunisia in the girl’s tournament after both Nour Kaddour and Amel Ben Haj fell to defeats.
Nour was knocked out by Slovakia’s Zuzana Zlochova, while Amel fell to the Russian Daria Gutsevich.
In the boy’s competition, Maher Boughnimi beat Britain’s Tom Knights in straight sets to also make his way into the quarter finals.
The successes of both Olfa Dhaoui and Maher Boughnimi are yet another great sporting achievement for Tunisia, following the national team’s victory in the Handball African Cup of Nations and the football side’s progression to the World Cup finals.
Tennis is just one of a number of sports which are hugely popular in Tunisia and is regularly enjoyed by Tunisians and tourists alike.![]()
