So we're having a discussion on reddit.com about this cannon which I believe is at the Spanish Fort in Bizerte, Tunisia. Does anyone know the make or model of this weapon, history or anything that could help us with identification? Thanks for any help you can provide. Yes, it's a weird question, I know.

I may be wrong but looks like a German 88mm from WWII re mounted though as the recoil suppressors are missing :)

Yeah, it might be. Another poster on reddit said it might be a German 10.5 cm l.F.H. 18 field howitzer, but all the pictures on google show the German guns with muzzle breaks, the picture above does not. I thought it was a British WW2 British howitzer, but the recuperator on top is wrong. Oh well...

Hey Roulla,

I'm actually looking for the make and model of the gun/howitzer in the picture above. I kind of searched all Northern Tunisia in google images to find the above location and finally narrowed it down to Bizerte. Now if you know anyone who knows the history of the Spanish Fort in Bizerte, that would really help.

They call it the Spanish fort but apparently it was built by Algerians (or people from that area)...

I went all around ther http://www.tunisia.com/bizerte-travel-guide/ and took a load of photos.

I was told the gun was Italian (I think I had a look at the markings also at the time) but then in Tunisia you can get 5 answers to the same question.
