They do this so that Tunisians can work and the jobs are not all given away to foreigners. This is actually a very good thing in my opinion. Especially since if you go to the US there are a bunch of jobs being outsourced to people from India, and other countries where the people are not used to getting big salaries. I understand given the jobs no one else wants to do, but to flat out pick foreigners over your own people is not good for the economy and creates a high unemployment rate.

Anyways, the medical field is always looking for experienced people so there may be a chance you would be able to find a job here - you would have to contact the hospitals, or doctors to find out.

You say "in case" you get the divorce, if you have medical evidence of the violence how can you NOT get one? Have you made no friends in the 5 years you have been there? Not even other mothers....do you not live near other people??
She posted this thread BEFORE she got the medical certificate. As for friends, I am not sure how many she has made. I do know that he pretty much keeps her confined to the house and tells people in the city bad things about her, so my guess would be that she hasn't made very many. And the place she lives in is not as densely populated as other cities. From my understanding (I could be wrong) she lives a little ways out from the actual city itself.

There are 2 recruitment agencies that I contacted nearly 2 years ago when I was making general enquiries; Addeco and Manpower both in Tunis. I was making enquiries about Executive Assistant banking jobs, and English speaking investment banks as that’s by background. Adecco were very friendly and advised me to get my cv translated into Arabic and French and she would market my cv. Her clients were mainly in the Tunis, the commerce area. I didn’t pursue it as I was just making enquiries. Not sure what the likelihood would have been to get an office job, probably zilch I think considering I don’t have either language! I've got the contact details somewhere if anyone wants them.

Also, I always see jobs on monster.com for Tunisia, as well as other sites on yahoo/ google, mainly the engineering/specialised type of jobs.

Great tip, BB!I'm looking for (accounting) work in London or Tunis(ia)!

Hi
I am interested in applying for an ESL job in Tunisia. I have no idea how to start but I know I want to work there even if only part-time.
Thanks for your response.

I find this quite interesting. Is this a way to keep "outsiders" from settling
there? If someone wanting to move to Tunisia can't find a job, it's a way
to keep the population local and not welcome people from other countries
to move and live there?
Maybe! But WHERE/HOW do people start looking for work in Tunisia? Not many job agencies. I never find much on the Internet for banking, accountancy and the like.Besides, like everything else, one needs the contacts.

Hello to you all..

I am Anka and very soon I will be rellocating to Tunsia and I have started looking for a job as English teacher.I have an university degree in english language and literature, and on top of that I will be getting a Cambridge CELTA certificate very soon.I have minimum of 3 years international teaching experience. I am not a native english speaker, but I have been living in UK ( with legal status for UK)and other countries, and I consider thatmy extensive teaching experience puts me at the same level with a native speaker!

I was wondering if any of you guys knows any language centers that might be needing a trainer!!Any help or info will be of a real help for me and will get me starting on searching for a job. I am also a fluent Spanish and Italian speaker, I have intermediate level in French.

I am also considering any other type of job which could include my multi-language skills , like a job in turism or foreign customer service, import-export etc. If any of you could help with any info I would be more than gratefull!!

Thank you all and looking forward to your feedbacks!!

If your English is good, the British Council are always looking for teachers.

As far as I know the British Council require you to be able to speak French as well as English. Know someone who tried to get a job there a while back, native English speaker, but due to her lack of French was not accepted.

I agree, i think unless you are Fluent, i mean fluent in French its pretty much a no go in most things in Tunisia.

Hi,

No- definately not the case (I work there and don't speak a word of French or Arabic!) You need to be a native/near native English speaker, have the CELTA or Certified Trinity cert (only these two are recognised by the British Council) plus min 2 years post qualification experience...

Ania- I'm sure there are numerous threads about this but it can be quite difficult finding work in Tunisia- (..sorry to say) as priority must be given to Tunisians. You're best bet is to try and find work for an off-shore company- perhaps a Polish company operating over here? as you'll then be 'placed' in Tunisia and be able to get a work permit that way. Or there's the tourism route...

Hope that you're able to find something soon :)

It was quite a few years ago and maybe it was just an excuse from her side as to why she did not get the job!!! ;-)

Yeah- they are (especially with the qualifications)... I think 3 years experience in total, but you need a min of 2.5 years after you've completed your CELTA/Trinity Cert.
