Need some help on travelling in autumn

#1
Hi.
My friend suggested travelling to Tunisia (capital) in autumn, October-November.
I have some doubts and questions. My friend is not very good planner, but I'm very cautious. about everything.
1. Are there good beaches near capital?
2. Security situation?
3. What are expenses for two weeks, including hotel bills?

I will be very grateful for any information.

I've been to a couple of beaches near the capital, Sidi Bousaid has a small beach, but quite nice. La Marsa is quite popular too, Gammarth a bit further to travel but more going on, obviously nothing like the real tourist beaches further south or North, but I quite liked them. The airport appears to have got better security wise, I have never felt unsafe but it's always down to personal opinion. Like anywhere, just be aware as much as poss.

hope those aren't in priority order?!
I haven't felt unsafe when I've visited tunisia but I am certainly more aware of what is going on now.

Hi and welcome to the forum!
There are some beautiful beaches in La Marsa, Sidi Bou said, but you'd need to get a cab there.
As you can see from the FCO for Tunisia it does say " Advise against all but essential travel". I personally would go because I know my way around there but I don't think I'd go if this was my first time.
There are loads of security crawling around especially along the road of Avenue Habit Bourguiba. There are many luxury hotels which charge an arm and a leg per night, Club Africa for an example charges over 1000 dinar and more. There are loads of hotel Inns along that road but you really have to be cautious on where you ask for a room. An example would be a hotel Inn that is called Oscar's, I only stay there because it's cheap and cheerful. If I can't be bothered to get the train back to Nabeul. But I also only stay there because I'm with my husband, in that little road there's a drinking place where there are loads of dodgy people. It's like the red light district. Tunis has many places that you probably shouldn't go to like Hyde cabaria, unless you know someone who lives that that would escort you there.
If you want to go to Tunis then I'd book before going and I'd go to La Marsh, La Goullete or Side Bou Said.
As for spending money it all depends if you book all inclusive or half board.
Food is not expensive to eat out and there's loads of places to eat along Avenue Habit Bourguiba. I do love Tunis as it's full of people and shops like Zara, churches, theatre's, Club Africa football ground, market, lovely shoe and bag shop's , Zoo and you have the trams which are nice.

Thank you for answers, I really appreciate it.

I would prefer an average price for hotel, but really don't know where to check. On sites like booking.com info is ok, but unfortunately very general. And of course I wish a secure place for women.

I've just had a look at Booking.com and there are loads of hotels in Tunis
Here take a look http://www.booking.com/searchresult...=city;highlighted_hotels=179436;redirected=1&

If your not too sure about the hotel that you choose maybe we can help you once you've given us the name of the hotel that you have picked. You could check their website for reviews as well as check out the distance from shops and beaches.

Also with Hotels.com you can cancel 3 days before and get a full refund. They also do a price watch so if the price goes down after you have booked you can cancel, get a full refund and then rebook. I had booked a hotel for 5 days in June at £185 all inclusive but last week I received an email as the price has gone down to £108 so cancelled and rebooked.

How long is a piece of string? All budgets can be catered for, a basic hotel, meals included, basic sightseeing on foot or public transport, will be vastly different to a 5* hotel, restaurants, car hire, tours, etc.

Sorry to be so vague but it all depends on what you want. I suggest looking at hotel prices on one of the comparison sites, then deciding what you want to do/where you want to visit, etc
