As expected, I have just heard that TC flights to Tunisia have been cancelled until October. I have no further information but have sent them a message via Facebook asking when I can expect to get my money back in order that I can make other plans. I have also said that a TC flight to another destination is not an option. As it was inevitable I'm very relieved that it has been confirmed as everyone was in limbo until it was official.

As it was inevitable that TC would follow Thomson's example I am actually glad that they have done so sooner rather than later, as everybody has been in limbo until there was official confirmation.

I am not concerned aboout the threat of terrorism, and have the option of flying from Gatwick with Tunisair, but it will work out quite a bit dearer when the cost of getting to Gatwick is taken into consideration. At present I'm not sure whether I'll do that or drop the idea of going in the spring, particularly as I still haven't recovered completely from my heart operation in September.

So a nice relaxing break in the Tunisian sun with a boukha in hand will be just the tonic you need!x

Have you tried Cedratine? It's a liqueur, somewhat like Cointreau but based on lemons rather than oranges. xx

The Tej does it in the bar so you can try it, as not everyone likes it. .I always bring a bottle (or two) home.

I always get orders to bring saffron back as it is so much cheaper than at home. Another request is for pashminas

Tunisia

Latest Update: 12 April 2016

There has been no change to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office advice with regards to travel to Tunisia, which remains against all but essential travel to the country.

In light of this, and given that we have no clear indication as to when the FCO travel advice may change, Thomas Cook can confirm that it has taken the decision to cancel all bookings to Tunisia up to and including 24 May 2017. We appreciate that this may be frustrating for our customers who have been looking forward to their holiday and we would like to assure them that we are doing our upmost to ensure they are still able to enjoy a Thomas Cook holiday by offering the following options:

  • Customers who are due to travel up to and including 24 May 2017are able to cancel or amend their holiday to another destination free of charge.
  • Customers who wish to re-book an alternative Summer 2016 holiday are being offered free amendments to an alternative Thomas Cook holiday of their choice, paying only any difference in price.
  • Customers booking a new holiday departing before 24 May 2017 will be offered a £30 per person discount* regardless of whether the alternative is cheaper or more expensive.
Customers wishing to amend their holiday are encouraged to visit their local Thomas Cook or Co-operative Travel shop, where our experienced agents will be happy to assist.

Thomas Cook is individually contacting customers whose bookings are affected, prioritising those due to travel soonest. Any customers with immediate concerns and who unable to visit one of our shops should call our dedicated customer phone line, open from 8am until 10pm:01733 224 536.

A dedicated line for travel agent enquiries has also been set up, open from 9am to 6pm (10-5pm Sunday):01733 224 520

At Thomas Cook, the safety and well-being of all those who travel with us is our absolute priority, and we would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding.

*£30 per person (adults and children) re-booking incentive only applicable to charter package holidays.

Excellent news! With the low £ if they dont charge too much there will be a lot of visitors and if they can keep everyone safe for 2-3 years it may come back big time.
